The CVF: Demystified
What is the Competency & Values Framework (CVF)? The CVF is what you'll be assessed against for Sergeant, Inspector, and Chief Inspector promotion boards, but most cops don't understand it or are baffled by the language used.
The College slightly amended the CVF in May 2024. In this moving feast, many forces are still using the original CVF for upcoming processes. Whether your force has transitioned to the "new" 2024 CVF, or still uses the "old" 2016 version, these videos now cover BOTH at no extra charge, giving you great value in your preparation.
This series of HD video presentations aims to demystify the College of Poling's CVF used across UK promotion selection processes. Answering questions like 'What is the CVF?', 'How can I evidence CVF behaviours in my promotion boards?', and 'What do the CVF competencies mean?' Suitable for all England and Wales forces and PSNI, I also cover the bespoke values used in the Metropolitan Police CVF and the Police Scotland CVF.
Whether you want it as an in-depth bolt-on to my existing toolkits (for PC to Sergeant and Sergeant to Inspector and Chief Inspector), or as a one-off deep-dive into the CVF, this will cement your understanding of the behavioural framework used in police promotion assessment.

Following on from my free YouTube video series on the CVF, and having been commissioned by forces to explain the CVF to officers and assessors, I commend this in-depth explainer to you, to support your police promotion ambitions. Compiled in a presentation style, it will help you get to grips with every competency and value, suitable for aspiring leaders in all UK police forces.
Upon successful purchase, you will receive three MP4 video files (Part 1 and Part 2 of the CVF 2016, and a video covering the "new" CVF 2024), for which you'll require 1GB of space to save it on your chosen device. Watch at your leisure to boost your SMART preparation, then use it again at your next promotion!
In the show, I introduce the framework you'll be assessed against. I then try and pin down what these various competencies and values really mean, by sharing my own tried and tested interpretation and 'plain English' explanations. The competencies are focused around Level 2 of the CVF, with additional examples and an explanation of what the various levels mean. I provide examples of what good looks like throughout. I also talk through various behavioural descriptors on the framework, highlighting the important points you'll need to demonstrate.
I introduce this new CVF video and include a free sample of the 2016 one below, see what you think. Remember, you'll now get BOTH for the same price! Read my new CVF 2024 blog for more about this new product.
